Swollen And Painful Upper Arm After Drawing Blood, Firm And Pain To Touch. Reason For The Same?

So I had some blood drawn earlier today and since then, my upper arm (up to 5 inches away from the site) is swollen and painful. It feels firm and hurts when touched or when I move my arm. I have a little bruise by the injection site but that's pretty common so I'm not worried about that. But my arm hurts and is pretty swollen. Do you know what could have caused this?

Hello
Thanks for your health query.
This can happen due to a small thrombus that forms in the vein after drawing blood.
What you can do is this -
Apply ice compresses to the arm
Keep it elevated ( for example on 3 - 4 pillows ).
You can use Thrombophobe Gel for local application.
Give yourself a day, but if the swelling does NOT subside, see a doctor, to prevent the thrombus from spreading, particularly , if you have a complicating factor such as malignancy, diabetes, old age etc.
All the best.
Take care.
