Swelling, Sharp Pain, Bursting Open Leaking Yellow Fluid In Lower Leg Where Hardware Is Put Due To Broken Leg. Advice
I have broken my leg 5 years ago and have hardware put into my lower leg (plate) and where I broke it is swollen having sharp pains to where I cant actually walk and now its busting open and leaking yellowish fluids im not sure what is going on I have been to hospital numerous times but now symptoms are getting worse and I can not get a orthopedic surgeon without insurance what should I do?
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Since , you haven't mentioned whether plate is still in the leg or removed. If still get it remove at once as this is source of infection. You have developed osteomyelitis ( Chronic )in the leg . Yellowish material is most probably slough , forms due to infection. In my opinion most sensitive antibiotics with local antiseptic dressing may give you relief. However the best treatment is consultation of an Orthopaedician and his help. Good luck. Dr. HET
