Swelling In The Knees, Redness, Pain, Fever. On Antibiotics. Is Venous Doppler Required?

My daughter age 48 just took a long 2 day trip in a car & is suffering with pain, redness, swelling in her right leg below the knee in the front beside the shin of her leg. Her dr put her on an antibiotic & said to have a venous doplar if it gets worse. She is running a low grad fever 99.0 F. She has been on the antiobiotic 24 hrs. Should she go to the hospital ER & get the venous doplar tonight or can she wait until morning. She also has a knot that has moved from the knee area to the ankle. It is soft & about the size of a silver dollar. What do you think of this knot moving?

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

She can wait till morning. Her doctor is suspecting deep vein thrombosis.
Her features can be due to thrombosis. It can be excluded by colour doppler of venous system of lowerlimbs.
I think her features may be due to infective etiology.
Movable knot may be enlarged lymph node and it generally increases in infection.
Doctor has rightly prescribed the antibiotics. She should continue these medicines and colour doppler can be done if she doesn't improve.
Get well soon.

Take Care
