Suspecting A Missing Rib From Injuries That Resulted In Broken Ribs. How Serious Is This Condition?

Hi, I'm actually a little worried. I've broken my rib twice during and after a severe injury (I was stabbed when I was 17 and I was kicked multiple times, it resulted in breaks and internal bleeding as well as severe scarring). The rib that was broken has always stuck out following the second break but now there seems to be an actual piece missing (or the rib just isn't connected near my spine anymore) and it's causing some concern for quite a few reasons. Doctors have established it's not a floating rib, it's too high up for that and I need surgery to correct it. My concern is the sudden missing piece, what are the dangers? I am getting x-rays tomorrow.

Hello there!
Tahnk you for asking, X ray and examination is necessary before speculating aany thing about that missing piece with so much history of trauma,
If surgeons advised surgery then surgery it is,
Lets wait for the radiological aspects and then say some thing about it,

Cheers
S Khan
