Suggestive Medication For A Persistent Problem In Digestion

My seventeen year old daughter has had digestive problems for about a year. For a while, she had stomach pain, nausea, and deep belching. She was put on some strong antibiotics, which helped. She lost weight for a while, but has put back on 2 pounds. We have tried over the counter remedies and papaya enzyme. She has had a gall bladder sonogram and blood work done, as well as a lab test for celiac disease which we have in our family history. The belching continues, and is a problem, and embarrassing for her at school. We are trying to stay with a gluten reduced diet which seems to help a bit. Her Dr. says next is the possibility of a gastroscopy, which I hate to put her through. She is a Sr. in a modified curriculum class, and hopes to get a job after school, but the belching could be a problem. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Subtle abdomen symptoms are very common in this age and it is most of the time due to some functional elements. If nothing apparent disease or cause is found, then the only option remain is imaging studies like scopy, CT and MRI.

In my opinion, it seems to be IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome). If I would be doctor of this case, then I would try to treat this case with tablet Clinidium with Chlordiazepoxide three times in day on tentative basis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain
