Suggest Ways To Prevent Diabetes

Hi Doctor,
First a small background--my husband is 31 years old, is very over-weight, and diabetes runs in his family. For awhile now, he has had some health "issues", and after doing some online research, it turns out that the symptoms point to possible diabetes. I told him that he needs to go see our family doctor, but he is refusing to do so, because he doesn't want it to affect his health insurance. Instead, he purchased the "True2go" glucose test.
He kept testing wrong/ruining the strips-except one (last one he had)-which I helped him with (a little)--his last one when he tested, the meter read "Lo". I looked in the manual again and there's nothing in there about that reading?

Hello,
I have gone through your query. With the information you provided here its difficult to give a sure shot answer. And yes genetics is one o the reason for diabetes. You mentioned your husband is very overweight so first of all ask him to do regular physical activity to prevent diabetes, hypertension and other health issues.it is always better to go a clinical check up with relevant investigations like both fasting and after meal.By measuring glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), clinicians are able to get an overall picture of what our average blood sugar levels have been over a period of weeks/months.
For people with diabetes this is important as the higher the HbA1c, the greater the risk of developing diabetes-related complications. So i suggest you to take your husband for a proper health check up by convincing him.

Thanks, hope this might help you.have a nice day.
