Suggest Underlying Cause For A Constellation Of Sudden Health Problems

I ve had a strange constellation of symptoms that began suddenly about eight months ago following a sore throat and what may have been a panic attack (only other possibility is that it was the start of an inner ear problem). Symptoms are: Constant tiredness. Started with lots of chills but these have subsided a bit. Constant dizziness (or possibly more accurately, brain fog). Not a vertigo or spinning sensation but feel off balance, forgetful, and not myself . Occassional feeling head pressure, which seems to radiate from the back of neck and upper back. Eye floaters (intermittent). Occassional tinnitus and popping feeling in ears. Muscle twitching throughout body. I seem to have tied this to a large extent to GERD symptoms, which I also have. Weak urinary stream which started suddenly at the beginning of these problems, as well as erectile and sexual dysfunction which has also developed suddenly. Tests so far have included two sets of normal blood tests (including ESR and CRP in the last set). These included a metabolic panel, hepatitis and HIV screen, thyroid function tests, and B12 (low normal). Also a neurological consultation (didn t believe there was any sinister cause for symptoms), chest x-rays, and being seen by about four doctors. My medical history is completely normal except for longstanding GERD which I have received treatment for in the past. Noone has any explanation for the cause of the symptoms and I feel in good mental health despite my worrying about the cause of the symptoms. Still, I m naturally concerned about what all these different health problems mean, especially as they started so suddenly and have been going on for the best part of a year at this stage without much (if any) improvement. Any ideas would be appreciated as my doctors seem stupefied.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there...

I see that almost all investigations have been done. In some cases an injection of Vitamin B12 might help.In your case it it low normal.

I would also like to know if your Vitamin D level was checked. Your blood pressure , I presume is within normal range.

GERD can present with multiple symptoms. If all investigations are normal, symptoms might be attributed to GERD.

Also H. pylori test if possible.

Sign up for yoga classes, which will be very beneficial for you in the long run.

Hope my answer was helpful to you.

Regards,
Dr.Divya Kuttikrishnan
