Suggest Treatment To Relieve Severe Pain In Thigh

My son was playing soccer and he got a knee to the thigh. It hurts so bad that he is using his hands to lift his leg onto the ottoman so he can ice it. He can walk but very slow. What else should he do and when should he see a doctor if it doesn t get better.
