My husband went to ER last night for pain in the anal area, was told he has ringworm. they gave him a cream for the fungus but he is in pain, is there anything he can take to help with the pain? we have a couple prescription pain relievers and a few otc pain relievers at home.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your husband having pain in anal area and visited ER where he was told about ring worm infestation and was given cream for fungus; you have pain relievers at home and also have a prescription.
Since the ringworm can be present in the anal area but one can not have so much pain, this indicates an infection of bacterial origin and possible abscess or so.
I would advise him the following:
Consult a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation, actual examination, per-rectal examination and proctoscopy if the pain allows.
And to get an appropriate prescription for an antibiotic and metronidazole as well as painkillers and laxatives.
Take probiotics and multivitamins.
Sitz bath at least twice a day.
Regular follow up and to see that there is complete cure.
Tests of stool, blood and urine help a bit in diagnosis and gives for further management.
