Suggest Treatment To Get Rid Of Mucoid Cyst On Thumb

I have a mucoid cyst on my left thumb, as diagnosed by a dermatologist. It s really a nuisance and am told I should see a hand surgeon. What exactly needs to be done to get rid of this problem? I m constantly using a needle to drain the stupid thing which I know isn t in my best interest. I m a 72 year old female.

Hi,

It is a myxoid cyst...It is also known as digital mucous cyst.Exact cause is not known. Many treatments are available, both nonsurgical and surgical. Puncturing with needle, intralesional steroid injection, sclerotherapy with polidocanol, cryotherapy, carbon dioxid laser etc are different methods to treat the myxoid cyst. But,recurrence rates are high. Surgical removal has the most successful outcome, with the least recurrence...so excision by surgical method should be preffered.

Hope this helps.
