Suggest Treatment To Get Rid Of Loose Stools And Diarrhea

I had fever, headache, loose stool for 3 days and have been diagnosed to have amoeba after blood test and stool exam. I was given flagyl 500 mg 3x a day and ciprobay 500 mg 2x a day for 1 week. Is medication right? What diet should I follow to relieve stomach cramping and loose stool?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Flagyl is commonly used to treat amoeba. Ciprobay is not as commonly used for this infection but may have been prescribed for a specific reason.

It would be best to hold off solid foods for a short while and use mainly a liquid diet (eg soups, dilute gatorade).
The use of food while you are still having diarrhea and abdominal pain would make the symptoms worse.

When restarting foods, after the symptoms have started to decrease, start with small amount of dry foods first (biscuits, bread, rice with no gravy etc).

I hope this helps
