Suggest Treatment For Two Extra Ribs And Joint On Left Rib

My son has two extra ribs which now are bothering him, after x-rays his doc said he found a joint on the left rib. My son is scheduled for a CT next week to get a better view of what is going on. I have to say I'm a little concerned and maybe a little freaked out. Is this very common? What kind of treatments options are there?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No, accessory ribs are not that common.
Even if they are present, they are mostly asymptomatic and accidental finding on chest x ray.
Symptomatic accessory ribs are uncommon.
Surgical removal of those accessory ribs is the only treatment option.
So better to consult cardiothoracic surgeon for surgery.
First get done CT scan.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.
Wishing good health to your son. Thanks.
