My son is a pretty physically active 17 year old male. For the past 2-3 days he has started having an increasingly troublesome fluid pulsing-like feeling behind his right eardrum. It is more of a sensation/feeling than an actual sound. It is as if he had just left a 4-5 hour concert with incredibly loud bass and can still feel the bass sound waves vibrating in his eardrums. He listens to his iPod with headphones (ear bud type) at full volume almost all the time. He has a history of ear problems like tubes placed and removed, perforated eardrums requiring surgical grafting for repair and a failed graft requiring more in depth connective tissue grafting to repair. His hearing now is not affected, however, this is a very a annoying problem for him and seems to be even causing him to feel a bit panicky and concerned about aneurysm symptoms and such. He is not a kid who is ever unnecessarily concerned about his health so I know this is a real problem for him to have even mentioned it to me. It is at its worst when he is in a quiet place, not talking and with no music playing and occurs whether the ear buds are in his ears or not. Any ideas,Doc?
