Suggest Treatment For Tonsillitis In Children

Morning my 9 year old daughter has very stolen tonsils, they are touching the dangly bit at the back of her throat. I'm guessing tonsillitis, she had a temperature of just over 100 but no cold of cough smyptoms. It is very sore, she is managing to eat soup and Bread and soggy wetabix andstill drinking lots. Should I take her to the dr as I am thinking it is not a virus

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that severely swollen tonsils that is Tonsillitis and fever over 100 degrees indicates that your daughter is suffering from Viral throat infection although there can be secondary bacterial infection along with viral leading to severe inflammation on tonsils..

For confirmation consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Thorat swab culture can help in diagnosis..

She can be advised a course of antibiotics like Augmentin, anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can help..
Give Tylenol to relieve raised temperature..
You can also suck throat lozenges, chew Vitamin C pellet and avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Gargling with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine can relieve pain..
Sip on plenty of warm water throughout the day..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
