One of the relative indication for tonsillectomy (surgical removal of tonsils) is five or more tonsil infections per year for two consecutive years despite adequate medical therapy.
Your daughter is suffering from chronic tonsillitis and taking IV oral oral antibiotics will only cure current episode of tonsillitis. After few weeks tonsils may again get infected.
I agree with your doctor suggesting removal of tonsils.
