Suggest Treatment For Tongue And Throat Swelling After Appendectomy

I have a very long explanation that will lead up to my question. No one can figure it out. The last weekend of June I went to the ER with a pain in my right hip, nausea and vomiting. After an MRI it was decided that I needed an appendectomy. Surgery went great. Went home on Tuesday and was given a clean bill of health. The appendix had not ruptured but did need to be removed. The surgeon said it was inflamed and swollen. In his opinion it was about to rupture. On Wednesday I woke up with my tongue and throat swelling and diarrhea. I was having an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. The doctor told me to take Imodium for the diarrhea and Benadryl for the swollen tongue. And to go to the ER if it got worse. So the next day I woke up vomiting and the same symptoms. So my husband and I go to the ER. They give me a bag of fluid and a bunch of ant nausea medicine and sent me home. I then went to my PCP the following day. Still vomiting and miserable and she tells me to talk to the surgeon about it. I wait a week to have my follow up with my surgeon. I walk in and he tells me that It wasn t the surgery. You have GERD. Go see a GI doctor. So I call a family friend that is a GI doctor and I get a EGD the next morning. Now 3 weeks after surgery. The GI doctor says I see gastritis and a hernia. Keep taking the medicine. Another week goes by I get a stomach empting study, a MRI of my brain, and I am still unable to eat. No answers. Because as a teen I had issues with hormones being too high they decide to send me to an endo doctor. Another week goes by still vomiting. I go see the doc he runs a ton of blood work. Another week goes by waiting on results still vomiting. Results show nothing. Another week goes by with no food, I can hold down liquid in very small amounts. My PCP tells me to go to the ER and get fluids. I go get 1 bag of fluid and more meds and they send me home. Two days later I am in a lot of pain and my PCP has me admitted for malnutrition. During my stay I got a new GI doctor they do another MRI and EDG . and new test a CAT scan, a small bowel scan, xrays of my colon, and an enema. they cant find anything wrong. During my two week stay they give me a pick line and begin feeding me through it. on my last day they come in tell me they cant find anything wrong visit the new GI doctor in a week and good luck. I was still not able to eat, was in a lot of stomach and back pain, and vomiting. They sent me home with pain patch, and liquid Carafate instead of a pill. Other than that nothing had changed. Took my scripts to the pharmacy and went home to wait on them to be filled. I got a call and the pharmacy told me they couldn t fill the scripts because the doctor had not put an amount on it. They said they had a call in and would let me know when it got filled. That was Friday evening. I went three days with no medicine and no food and no sleep. On Monday I was not thinking clearly and took too much Benadryl in an attempt to sleep. My husband and the ER took it as a suicide attempt and the hospital sent me to a phys facility. I spent a week there and gained another med for sleep and depression from my illness. But still vomiting. This past week I was sent to see a RA doctor because at one point I tested Positive for ANA. I walked in she said I am not a GI doctor I cant help you. I will take some blood, xray your back and give you a call. That was last Wednesday... no call yet. My husband and I decide to go to a different hospital and hope for the best. We were there ten hours they did blood work, I peed in a cup and xrays. They said I looked good except I had a bad UTI. I have had a UTI on and off this whole time. I asked could my pain be my kidneys. They said oh no they are fine your blood work is normal. And this is where I am. I am a 33 white female no pregnancies, no gallbladder, normal life, no depression before this, a loss of 60+ pounds, and I have the worst fatigue. I cant explain how much my life has changed because of this. I cant work, do anything at all. I walked down the street and thought I was going to fall out! Everyone I see says the same two things you should feel so much better now that you have lost all that weight and Go see your GI doctor The GI doctor says he has done everything he can. I am begging for answers. I am so tired all the time.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Welcome to HCM,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

As per your clinical details, post appendecetomy landed you in malnutrition.
Cause could be due to acidity or drugs during surgery caused chronic bouts of vomiting.

In whole chart, there is no single consultation (ent disorders causing vomiting) with ent surgeon.

I suggest you to see an ent surgeon, some disorders can be diagnosed through clinically (most of the investigations are normal) like migraine or inner ear abnormalities causing vomiting.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Wishing you good health.
