Suggest Treatment For Tinnitus And Blocked Nasal Tubes

I have Tinnitus in my right ear which is causing sleep problems (I do not hear it during the day). I have been to my GP as my ears felt blocked and was given decongestants which did not help. I went back as was told that my right ear drum looked like frosted glass and probably had some residue or catarrh behind it from being blocked. I still get blocked nasal tubes and sinuses during the night and the Tinnitus has not gone away. What can I do to help this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The problem looks to be clearly due to otitis media that has not resolved. This alone can cause tinnitus that you feel in the night as everything becomes quiet at night. Another possibility is that the inflammation has spread to the inner ear structures like cochlear area causing you the tinnitus.

I would advise you the following:
* Take an opinion of an ENT surgeon as you need a proper clinical evaluation, investigations like audiometry, combo-study of MRI and CT scan of mastoids.
* Appropriate antibiotic and anti-inflammatory is needed to get over the problem and to continue decongestant
* Do not blow nose
* Also, insist on CT scan of sinuses and if sinusitis is present then to get treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
