Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was on a short ladder changing a battery in a fire alarm and slipped and hit my right thumb on the metal ladder. A couple days after I fell, a hard bump showed up on the bone and vein area on top of my thumb. The pain comes and goes but today it is excruciating. Do I need to see a dr?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. As you having a bump and pain it is better to have a local examination by orthopedician and a X ray to rule out any fracture. If fracture is present then reduction and immobilisation will be needed. If that is clear then it can be due to ligament injury. In such case splinting of finger in splints like frog splint will be helpful. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
