General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
VDRL test is a screening test for syphilis. It measures antibodies that your body may produce if you have come in contact with the bacteria called 'Treponema pallidum'.
Syphilis is transmissible by sexual contact with infectious lesions, from mother to fetus in utero, via blood product transfusion,
Penicillin is the treatment of choice for treating syphilis. Benzathine penicillin G 2.4 million units intramuscularly (IM) in a single dose is the treatment to be administered.
The prognosis is good following appropriate treatment. T pallidum remains highly responsive to the penicillins, and cure is likely.
Hope the information provided is clear.
All the vest.
