Suggest Treatment For The Large Red Welt On The Thigh

Hello, I have a large red welt or mark at the top of my outer thigh, almost where it meets my hip. It didn t hurt until today, but it has steadily been growing for about 3 days. It is swollen and warm to the touch, and a bit tender. There is no center and it is not a symmetrical shape; it is about the size of a deck of cards but irregular in shape. Thanks for any help you can give. Colleen

Hi.
As per your case history you are probably having cellulitis.
My treatment advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for pain and swelling for 5-7 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
