General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As there is edema in the subcutaneous region of pre patellar region, active inflammation may be a cause of concern in this regard with chronic changes of age related joint destruction via arthritis. The type of treatment is dependent upon the underlying symptoms, quality of life, routine work movement requirements and other co morbid conditions as obesity, diabetes and others.

Basic guidance as :
- Heating pad application
- Local analgesic spray or ointment with Linseed oil, Capsaicin gel
- Anti-inflammatory medicines as etoricoxib or others if no history of drug sensitivity
- Assisted physiotherapy
- Control of body weight if BMI above 25

Surgical option if all conservative therapy fails or not responding.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
