General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Thalassemia may worsen in acute infections like viral fever and that might provoke haemoglobin fall. As he is heterozygous he will live normally and blood transfusions rarely required.

You can opt for close monitoring with monthly haemoglobin checkup.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
