Suggest Treatment For Tendonitis, Bursitis And Nerve Impingement

Hello! I have been dealing with tendonitis, bursitis and nerve impingement in my right should for 4 months now. I have been going to physical therapy and had a cortisone shot 3 months ago. The issue is much better now, but I just noticed a lump around my shoulder/clavicle area. It is roughly quarter sized, painless and moveable. I see my ortho next week and he is going to take a look at it then, but the nurse said this is not a normal side effect of my shoulder injury. I am confident this is just a benign issue, but since I have to wait a week to see my doctor, a little comfort would be nice. Thank you :)

Hello,
Thanks for your query.

From the symptoms that you have described, it seems to be Rotator cuff tendonitis or shoulder impingement syndrome which causes irritation and inflammation of the rotator cuff and the bursa when doing overhead activity and hence pain.

You need to get an MRI scan done which is a more sensitive test for soft tissue and muscular injuries. An Orthopedician is the best person to be consulted in case the pain is persistent.

Here are some general treatment measures which you can follow:

1) Provide complete rest and avoid overhead activities.
2) Apply hot compresses and take some anti inflammatory pain killer .
Non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Motrin, ibuprofen, or Aleve can help with pain control and decrease inflammation.
Activities that cause symptoms should be avoided. A physical therapy program that focuses on establishing non-painful shoulder motion and strengthening of the shoulder muscles will also be helpful.

If the symptoms are severe then after confirming the diagnosis by MRI, you may need steroid injections .

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
