Suggest Treatment For Telogen Effluvium

Hi,I am suffering from telogen effluviam. Please suggest me important measures to take to prevent my rest of hair. I am shedding nearly 500-600 strands whenever i wash my hair. I have started taking protein rich diet as well as iron and calcium supplements. What else I can do? How long will my hair continue to fall? I was having hair fall before pregnancy also but during pregnancy didn t even shed a single strand of hair.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

The fact that you did not lose any hair during pregnancy suggests that your problem is likely hormone related. I recommend you visit a primary care doctor or a hormone specialist, endocrinologist, who can measure your female hormones as well as your thyroid hormones. In addition to Protein rich diet and iron supplements, You can try taking BIOTIN (vitamin B). I do not recommend calcium supplements before menopause as long as you are eating a well-balanced diet. Calcium supplements can actually be harmful.

Good luck! Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kamila Seilhan, Internal Medicine Specialist
