Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Graves Disease

I have been diagnosed with Graves disease 3 years ago. Doctors cannot seem to get levels under control. I noticed my neck is larger than normal and the skin on my neck is red, the shape of the red wine colour discoloration mimicking the shape of the thyroid. Have I been misdiagnosed? Tired of being on medication with bulging eye, abnormal weight gain, strange discolor ring on neck and no empathy. It is affecting my mental health and relationships. I was a happy, health conscious individual who is at wits end.

Hello,

You have a history of hyperthyroidism that has complicated to Graves disease. You will have to stop getting tired of medications & treatment as neglect may result in worsening of the symptoms. Untreated Graves disease can be fatal. I don't think you have been misdiagnosed but you have kept yourself neglected.

1. Since you are suffering from an autoimmune disorder & overactive thyroid, it is time to stay relaxed & chill. Stay away from stress, anxiety or anything that causes you irritability or lures you towards drug abuse, etc.
2. Take vitamin E, B6, B12, DHA along with minerals like magnesium, calcium & methyfolate.
3. Take all medications prescribed & go for regular follow up physical examination & treatment. You may have to get T3, T4, TSH several times to assess the level of improvement.
4. Discuss your diet plan with your physician or a dietitian.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
