Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Azithromycin is a second line treatment for bacteria tonsilitis when you can not take the normally recommended penicillins.With this drug, 5 days of treatment is enough to clear the germ in cause.However, the inflammatory reaction may take longer to go away.I will suggest you try the following: -Rest well -Get enough fluids -Take comforting foods and beverage -Gargle with salt water many times per day -Humidify the air -suck on lozenges to relieve a sore throat -Avoid irritants like dust and smoke -Take an anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen If symptoms persist, you see an ENT specialist for evaluation.In some cases, surgical removal of tonsils(tonsilectomy) may be considered in cases like frequently recurring tonsillitis, chronic tonsillitis or bacterial tonsillitis that doesn t respond to antibiotic treatment.
