Suggest Treatment For Swollen Ankles And Itching Sensation On The Calves

Hello, last night my ankles and feet {toes too) were rediculously swollen. I had cervical cancer and then a radical hysterectomy, which also involved both lymph nodes. Now I take 1mg estradial per day. I have been busy on my feet the last two weeks. Last night, I was feeling a pulling sensation from my butt muscles down the backside of my knee caps into my calfs. I hurt pretty bad. And it also aches in my pelvis like in the bone part . Right now I am experiencing prickly-itchy sensations below the knees and above the feet. What can be happening? Do I need to be seen? I am trying to take a road trip with my son. I cant even stand at this point without my toes numbing and the itch is constant while standing.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Swollen ankles may be caused by a number of medical conditions.Symptomatic treatment may at times give good results but recurrence is possible and cause may be life threatening.Reason for which cause should always be investigated and treated.Possible causes may include:
-kidney problems
-liver problmes
-heart problems,
-local vessel compression by masses preventing back flow of blood and causing stasis.
-Vessel(venous) insufficiency
Swollen ankles may be associated with other symptoms including itching calves.I will suggest you see the Doctor for examination and work-ups.Test like renal function test, liver function test, ECG and an abdominal CT scan may help reveal the cause. In the meantime, you may try the following
-Take a diuretic like furosemide
-Elevate legs while lying
-Reduce fluid and salt in take.
The etiologic management will be handled by your Doctor after investigating cause.
Hope my answer will help you
Best wishes
