Suggest Treatment For Swollen Ankle And Foot With Severe Bruising Post An Injury

Today will be a week that I sustained blunt force trauma to both my lower shins due to box jumps. My right leg seems to have taken the worst force. Of course I now have what looks like baseballs protruding out of my shins but I also have extreme swelling to me ankle, foot along with severe bruising. This has caused me to have pain in my foot and ankle. I cannot touch them. I also have pain upon standing. I am assuming that is the blood surfacing at the impact sight. Once it flows a little under a minute I can finally try and walk. Does all of this sound normal or should I be overly concerned. It really looks bad. My foot and ankle looks like I broke it it. I did have X-ray which do not show a break or fracture. I just do not want to develope unrepairable tissue damage.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. Sorry to hear about your problem.
Development of bruises and sometimes collections after trauma is a usual event. It should not be so alarming. Good to hear about XRAY which is showing no fracture or damage to bones or joints. It seems that due to trauma you have sustained injury to the soft tissues of the foot and leg. And all you need is stay assured and enjoy some bed rest for a week or so. If you need you can take some pain killers . See your primary physician to get a prescription if pain killers are not available over the counter in your country. Wishing you best of health .
Regards.
