Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
your symptoms suggest that you have sever soft tissue injury over toe. icing ,anti-inflammatory analgesic such as diclofenac ,limb elevation over pillow and rest will decrease pain. strapping of injured toe with adjacent toe will give support to its tissue injury. if swelling persists for more then seven days then visit to your orthopedician and get an xray of injured toe.
Hope this helps.
