Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Finger Joint

The joint in my finger is sore and swollen. It happened at the end of a 7 day golf trip to Scotland. The area is swollen enough to prevent me from folding my finger more than half way. I have had gout before and still do from time to time. Could this be gout? How about the statins I started taking recently?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Gout affects small joints. So your current finger joint swelling and pain might be due to gout recurrence.
So better to consult orthopedic doctor and get done clinical examination of fingers, x ray of affected finger and serum uric acid level for the diagnosis of gout.
Statins (lipid lowering drugs) are unlikely to cause such side effects. So no need to worry for Statins.
If uric acid is high then this is due to gout only and you will need uric acid lowering drug like febuxostat and strict protein restriction.
Don't worry, you will be alright but consult orthopedic doctor and discuss all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
