Suggest Treatment For Swelling On Lips After Stitches

My son had to have stitches in his upper lip on friday the 17th of Jan and his face and lip is swollen worse today then it was yesterday. He is using ice 20 minutes on 20 minutes off plus taking Tylenol 2 500 mg tablets every 4 hrs. Is this normal or should I take him back to the emergency room. If it is normal how long should it be before the swelling starts too go down.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The swelling is normal and is related to the inflammation.
In my opinion there is no need to go at the emergency room.
I suggest to continue the treatment with Tylenol and ice compresses.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
