Suggest Treatment For Swelling In Thigh Due To Injury
Last week I was thrown off my bike onto the road. My outer thigh at hip joint level swelled into a half coconut size and then developed a dinner plate sized black bruise. This has now begun to dissapate down my leg but the area where the swelling originally began is now hard and protrudes in a lump. When I lie on it it feels like a burn accompanied by a sharp spiky pain. Should I continue to leave it to resolve itself ? I have used arnica cream on it and ibubrofen massage ointment and use a hot water bottle to lie on. I have no problem with weight bearing but would like reassurance that this lump will not become permanent.

Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. It is most likely a hematoma. But a bone injury should be excluded by local examination by orthopedician and X ray if needed.Hematoma if trouble some like continuous pain or disability should be evacuated surgically. You can apply ice packs on the area initially.Hot water bottle can be used after 3 days for easy absorption of hematoma.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
