Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am extremely obese. I have normal blood pressure but for the last month my limbs- mostly my legs and feet are very swollen. Tonight, after exercising with a physical therapist and then having a few glasses of white wine, my left foot - both and legs are very swollen - was badly swollen and without touching dimpled. I am waiting for the wraps prescribed by a physician to arrive but what can I do in the meantime? I don t understand why wine and coffee/tea are a problem. Thank you.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Swelling in legs can occur due to high blood pressure and vascular disorders. As you have mentioned that your blood pressure is within normal limits, vascular causes have to be looked for. Dimpling of swelling area suggests that there is accumulation of tissue fluid in the interstitial space. Thus, there is seepage of tissue fluid from vascular channels into the tissue space or interstitial space. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and relevant investigations. Doppler ultrasound of lower limbs is required for assessment of lower limb vessels. In case any abnormality of vasculature is found, relevant steps for management can be taken.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
