Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain In Ear
Hello, my daughter will be a year old in about 2 weeks. I got her ears pierced when she was 5 weeks old. Today however I noticed that her right ear was red, swollen and warm to the touch. Her other ear is fine. I ve done some searching on the web and can t find anything to explain this except a possible food allergy. Would a food allergy make her ear red and swollen like this? Thanks for you time.

Hi,
Noted the history about your 2 year old daughter who had ear piercing when she was 5 weeks old but developed redness, warmth and swelling on right ear.
The commonest cause in such a case is infection, caused by injury due to pulling on the earring or so, scratching as the baby is just 2 year old, entanglement with clothing is another known cause.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult a Pediatrician as this condition needs a proper clinical diagnosis and may be few blood tests.
Oral antibiotic as per the weight.
Anti-inflammatory as per weight.
Local application of liquid povidone iodine.
This will settler all the problems.
Antihistamine if allergy is involved which is a rare cause of such a problem.
