Suggest treatment for suspected stones in the kidney

I am a 59 yr. old woman who is having a cystoscopy in a couple of days. The urologist does not use sedation, but rather numbing gel, and says it is only slightly uncomfortable. I do not have an active infection right now but did spend a month on 3 rounds of antibiotics for what I thought was a UTI. After no relief from the antibiotics and excruciating pain all of this time, the pain ubruptly stopped. I believe I passed a kidney stone as there is a history of them with my mother. My question is, will this procedure hurt? It seems that many urologists actually perform these with the patient under aneasthesia. I am so nervous and am wondering if I should bring this up when I go in for the procedure.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

If the treatment is extra-corporeal shock wave lithotripsy there will be some discomfort. If you are to have the stone removed endoscopically, you will be in general anesthesia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon

a year ago I developed urinary retention which turned into a uti , I took doxycycline for 6- 8 months which seemed to alleviate the uti, but constipated me a lot. I now suffer from periodic constipation which affects my urinary stream. I have tried staying gluten free as a possible measure to avoid inflammation. I am still really unsure if that will help however. To describe the stool, its sandy and grainy looking, comes out in parts and is never large always small and pencil like. The doctor ruled out my kidney from scans, and also checked my prostate, both tests came up with nothing. I had a cystoscopy as well but no luck with that either. I am perfectly healthy, but still I have constant constipation -no blood is in the stool -undigested food is seen in the stool To add I feel as if I never completely empty my bladder, it feels like something, like urine is stuck in the shaft of penis

Hi, i have been experiencing painful urination. I am 45 years old. I have had two children, then a tubal ligation was done in 2000. I had an ablation approx. 3 years ago. the pain when urinating has been intermittent for several months now. Could it be due to scar tissue? I went to urulogist who tested my urine. he said it was perfect. Doctor said i need a cystoscopy. I tried to get through it at his office but couldn t because it was so painful. Is there a less painful way to get through a cystoscopy? Can I be sedated for this procedure?
