General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thank you for your query.

If you spotted around the time of your period, but have an unusual flow and cramping, this could Indicate a hormonal imbalance and that your period is on its way, especially since your home pregnancy tests are negative
(home pregnancy tests may turn positive even upto 10 days after period is due)

Functional ovarian cysts are a common occurrence in the childbearing age and usually resolve without treatment in 2-3months. While they last, they may interfere with the normal hormonal cycle and delay periods by preventing or slowing ovulation.
This may result in irregular cycles and cause discomfort in the PMS (premenstrual syndrome) range.
Occasionally they may become too big and will need to surgically removed or reduced.

Certain other cysts (complex cysts, endometriomas) may also occur and need further investigation.

Thyroid hormone imbalances may also result in irregular or scanty flow cycles. This can be verified by a blood test. If you are on medications for thyroid imbalances, dose adjustment may be required

A blood test for pregnancy will only either confirm or rule out a viable (healthy) pregnancy.

I recommend you wait till your period is late by 2 weeks (if you have regular cycles) and take another home pregnancy test. Go to your OBGYN with the results.
If negative, you may need an ultrasound to diagnose the cause in addition to some blood work. If positive, Congratulations!

Please note that sudden changes in lifestyle, high levels of stress, change in diet, sudden loss or gain of weight can all affect your cycles.

If you have severe abdominal pain (even worsening of pain), vaginal bleeding, fever, giddiness, palpitations, vomiting, visit the ER right away. An ectopic pregnancy need to be ruled out.
Hope this helps.
Please get back to us if you need further clarification.
Wish you good health
