Hello,

There isn't any medicine to make that blood go away. When there is a larger quantity of blood surgery may be done, but doesn't seem to be necessary for that size of the hematoma.

The blood will eventually be broken down and absorbed with time, the issue is whether there will be any more bleeding, for that purpose neurological evaluation and repeat imaging is usually required.

Also in preventing more bleeding the cause of the hematoma must be clarified, has there been any trauma to explain the bleeding?

If not tests to search for coagulation disorders must be done, spontaneous bleed in a 35-year-old is very exceptional in the absence of trauma, an underlying cause must be investigated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olsi Taka, Neurologist

my son just had a subdermal hematoma and surgery to drain it in a burr hole. This is a complication of a large brain tumor removed two months ago, a dermoid cyst behind his eye. He is a 16 year alcoholic and I wonder what this means for recurrence. What is his probable prognosis of further debilitation in memory and balance?

I just got a call that my 84 year old Mother is in the hospital and they discoered an subdural hematoma. She lives out of state with my sister and my sister said the doctor didn t seem overly concerned other than the fact of her getting surgery at her age . My question is how bad is this, They said it was a small one but they have to relieve the pressure . She has been losig her balance a lot over the last few months and falling. Other than that her health is very good. She had surgery a few month ago to clear blockage in her carotid artery. She is a former smoker but relatively good health.

Two years ago, my husband had a subdural hematoma which was successfully drained. For the past 2-3 months, he has been having severe headaches to left temporal area, blood work (including sed rate & CRP) & CT of head normal, no tenderness to head. About 3 nights ago, pulse to left temporal was bounding & now has a protruding blood vessel to area. Have an appt with neurologist on Dec 8th, do you have any suggestions as what may be cause? From CT & lab work, feel that family & emergency room doctor has ruled out giant cell arteritis. Thank you
