Suggest Treatment For Stabbing Pain In Thigh With Lump

I m a male, 49 y. I have very sharp, stabbing pain in the front of my right thigh. The pain is persistent in the area a few inches above the knee and extends about half way up the thigh. It occasionally presents closer to the hip area, as well as the outer part of the thigh. There is also a considerable amount of numbness in the outer part of the thigh as well. The pain and discomfort is worse when sitting or reclining, and less noticeable when walking, although there s sometimes a bee sting or pulling type pain in the same areas. When massaging the area above the knee, it seems as though theres a thickness or lump below the skin about the size and shape of a cookie (weird analogy, I know). There is no noticeable swelling or discoloration in any part of the leg. I saw my doctor about this last week and he attributed the problem to a pinched femoral nerve caused by my weight, which is 330 pounds. No further tests were ordered and no pain relief was offered. I m just about at my wits end and looking for a second opinion, and relief!!

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
The symptoms that you are having are likely to be due to a nerve root compression . You need to get an MRI scan of the area done and consult a neurophysician for proper diagnosis and treatment.Use analgesics ,muscle relaxants as needed. You can take daily supplements of Vitamin B12 also, as it a neurotropic vitamin.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
