Suggest Treatment For Sprained Ankles

Hi I sprained my ankle in Decemeber I did all the RICE. I had acupuncture which made it worse and it swelled up and got infected. I took care of that and am at a physio now. They are doing laser treatment on me and magnetic stuff and exercises. It hurt my nerves a bit and that is also being taken care off with VitB12 and Milga and VitD. It s still tender and I can now walk a lot better but not for long. Can I take a long flight with it the pain still there? I m really scared of it swelling up during flight. I flew from Turkey to Egypt 2 hours and it swelled up a lot that s when I was already swelled up. NOw I m not swelled up but it s still painful and i need to fly from Egypt to Singapore in a month or so.

Hi,

I understand your concerns, a sprained ankle should not be painful for that long duration. You need to tell me more about what kind of infection was it and was any antibiotics were prescribed for it.

Another thing being is that a swelling from sprained ankle should not increase from prolonged sitting as when you are sitting you are putting less weight on your ankles compared to standing.

Now, regarding the flight, I would recommend taking a painkiller like Ibuprofen or Naproxen on the day of your flight and you should be able to fly from Egypt to Singapore without any problems. You could also ask for wheelchair assistance if walking becomes impossible for you just in case.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
