Suggest Treatment For Soreness And White Pus On Tonsils
Hi- I have been feeling achy with a sore throat for about 2 days now. Today I notice big white pus pockets on my tonsils. I m pretty familiar with strep symptoms & tend to get it several times a year. I have an unused Rx of augmentin (my doc gave it to me in the event a cold progressed to a sinus infection).... Can I just start taking the meds?
Hello, You should consider confirming a strep diagnosis before starting any medication to treat strep. As you most likely know, there is a simple swab test to confirm strep. You also need to check expiration dates and know that you have a full dose available before starting a medication. Antibiotics require a full dose to be completed to be effective. I suggest that you contact your doctor and discuss this further. You may consider taking some anti-inflammatory medication such as Tylenol or Advil until you visit your doctor. I recommend that you keep well hydrated, make sure you are taking well balanced vitamins with a proper diet and rinse with warm salt water. Thank you for your inquiry.
