Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat With Pain And Tooth Abscess

I saw my doctor Wednesday thinking I had thrush (left side of the tongue and throat pain) with a sore throat...that's what he diagnosed it as and gave me nystatin. Yesterday and today I can't eat anything but pudding and mashed potatoes...and as long as I swallow on the opposite side...no fever...And I was put on Amoxil by my dentist on Thirsday for a tooth abcess. I am in so much pain when I swallow!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms sore throat seems to be due to infection in throat and it can be due to thrush or viral infection.
chances of bacterial infection are less as you are already on antibiotics.

Nothing to worry, continue taking the medications for thrush and for throat ache gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine especially during meals.
Do warm saline gargles.
Avoid spicy and hard food and take a soft bland diet.
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller Ibuprofen for pain relief.

As you have a dental abscess for which you are taking antibiotics, I would suggest you to get the tooth treated by either root canal treatment or extraction depending upon the condition of tooth because if you continue taking antibiotics thrush will not resolve as antibiotics will kill the good bacteria of mouth that fight against other organisms and prevent them causing infection.

So better get the tooth treated so that antibiotics will be stopped early.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
