Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat With High Fever

My 2yr 8mth old son is complaining of a sore throat (refuses to let me look at it) for 24-36hrs, he also has a high temp (39+, coming down to 37.5 after calpol), but I ve noticed now his face is swollen and he is unable to swallow his own saliva. His breathing is ok and no stridor and he can still talk - but I m concerned he cant swallow even his own saliva. Do I need to get him medical attention tonight (its 1am Mon morning) or just see the GP in the morning?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a pharyngitis probably bacterial in origin. Treatment is by antibiotics and it has to be started at the earliest to prevent unwanted complications. Consult a pediatrician and get evaluated. Nothing much to worry as most of the cases respond well to antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
