Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat, Cough And Fever

Hi, I had an encounter with a man of unknown HIV status around 3 weeks ago where we kissed each other a lot and wanked each other and ourselves. He ejaculated on my stomach. Then two weeks ago I met a female Eastern European sex worker where she gave me a blowjob with a condom. Within the last two or three days I have started to develop flu like symptoms, sore chest, sore throat, slight cough, fever, sweats. I m completely panicking now even although I have read quite a lot online saying I m not at risk. Quite a lot of mis information online which keeps freaking me out though. Do you think I need to get tested?

Hello,

I agree that the exposures that you describe could not transmit HIV. With only very rare exceptions, HIV can only be transmitted by sexual intercourse (unprotected) or by blood (such as sharing needles). None of your exposures come close to this, and so I would not worry about HIV. It is likely that you are just having another viral infection such as the flu.

I don't think you need to be tested, but if you do find yourself still worrying about it, an antibody/antigen test for HIV is 95% accurate at 4 weeks, and over 99% accurate at 12 weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch,
