Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Swollen Tongue And Lymph Nodes

I am a 57 year old female and I was treated with antibiotics for ten days for a suspected dx of strep throat which was not confirmed. The sore throat got better for a few days, but now it is back but also with a sore and swollen tongue and swollen lymph glands. Should I ride it out since it is probably a viral infection or go back to the doctor?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain sore throat, sore tongue and swollen lymph nodes can be due to reasons like throat infection caused by bacteria or virus, post nasal drip, sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infection, acid reflux etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Throat swab culture, upper G.I endoscopy can help in confirmation..
In case if there is infection antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers and warm saline gargles can be advises..
In case of acid reflux, proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole can be advised..
For sore and swollen tongue you can do gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine and take multivitamin supplements..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
