Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Enlarged Tonsils

I have a sore throat, very enlarged tonsils and what looks to be some white stringy pus on my tonsils. It hurts to swallow. I can't find my thermometer but I believe I have a fever as I am having chills. I thought sinus infection as my nose is slightly stuffy and I did have a sinus headache about 2 days ago. I also have hardened pus pockets on my tonsils from a year ago when I had strep. Does this sound like strep again or could it just be a simple case of tonsilitis that will go away?

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query and after co-relating your symptoms it appears as you are having chronic tonsillitis with recurrent acute exacerbation.

As you said last year you got same type of tonsillar infection and that was strep infection so it should be clear this time also by doing culture and sensitivity and gram's staining of throat swab.

At present to get relief you may do-

1- Warm saline gargling.

2- Tab Paracetamol.

3- Anti histaminic.

4- Adequate fluid orally.

5- Antibiotic- Ideally it is decided by culture and sensitivity report.

I hope above will be helpful for you but consultation with ENT doctor is advicable as to avoid recurrence and further complications.

Regards.
