I am down with sore throat and I feel i have thorns in my throat. Every winter I suffer from this since the age of 15.I am 37 now.Last year I even landed up with shortness of breath and breathing difficulty for almost 6mths.Then I got this In vitro allergy test done. The results were shocking as it shows that iam allergic to milk,onion,lemon,tomatoes,yeast..........the list is very long. Can u believe that I am even allergic to paracetamol.Since this test i am religiously avoiding all the food items, medicines, inhalents etc. This winter this is my second episode.I have dry cough, almost no congestion but continious coughing.help me please with a long term solution.

Allergist and Immunologist 's  Response
Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for you as follows:

1. Were I treating you, I would suggest you montelukast, levocetirizine and warm saline gargles for 5-7 days.

2. I would also suggest you to use salbutamol inhaler/tablet should you have any asthma symptoms/breathing difficulty/wheezing.

3. Regarding food allergy tests, I would like to mention that no allergy testing is 100%, allergy testing should be consider as clue.

I usually suggest my patients to "try" one food after the other from the positive ones in allergy testing every week. If you are not experiencing any symptoms after introduction of a particular food, you may not have allergy and may safely consume it in future. This will help you reducing restrictions.

4. For long term solution, I would suggest you to consult an Allergist-Immunologist who will be better able to interpret allergy testing and may perform allergy skin testing.

If not already done, I would suggest you allergy testing for air-borne substances, especially house dust mites, cockroach proteins, common molds & pollens in your region and animal dander (if you have pet). Based on these allergy testing, an Allergist may prescribe you allergen specific immunotherapy which works on your immune system to improve allergy symptoms on a long term basis.

5. In general, I would suggest you to avoid exposure to dusts, smokes and air pollution.

6. Regular breathing exercises and a healthy diet rich in vitamins & minerals (adequate amounts of green leafy vegetables, fruits, sprouts) also will help you in a long run by improving your lung capacity and immunity respectively.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish you the best of the health.

Thank you & Regards.
