Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Chest Tightness

I was diagnosed with Pleurisy 8 days ago. I was only prescribed ibuprofen and a pain med. I have been to the ER 3 times since then due to breathing.. All chest X-rays show inflammation and no fluid on lungs. I ve had blood work and EKG in all visits. Everything came back clear. And I was tested for clots. I was also given 2 steroid shots total during the visits. They say it s not lung related but using my nebulizer with Albuterol helps. Why is that? I don t have a cough. They think it eas viral because I had a sore throat and runny nose at first. The chest tightness and difficulty breathing bought me to the ER. When does it get better and why wouldn t they put me on a steroid for several days? The difficulty breathing out ways the pain. They are sure I just need to keep taking ibuprofen. I went to 2 different hospitals.

Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sore throat and chest tightness which is because due to streptococcal infection leading to strep throat and it could be due to sinusitis/ tonsillitis or acid reflux. I would suggest you to take antibiotics like Amoxicillin for 5 days. Gargle with an antimicrobial mouthwash such as listerine. You should take steam inhalation with vaporizers also avoid heavy and spicy food. You should take anti-inflammatory painkiller Ibuprofen for relief from pain and inflammation. Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily. Do warm saline gargles. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. Visit ENT specialist once and get throat culture and sputum test done to find out exact cause and start treatment accordingly. Avoid cold carbonated beverages and also consult cardiologist to rule out any cardiac problem.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
