Suggest Treatment For Sore Spot Under The Tongue

I saw urgent care a week ago with what feels like a sore spot on the underside of my tongue and throat, and was examined. He said I had a virus, it has not improved even with gargling salt water, mouthwash, and using choloroseptic. It feels like I have a sore spot on the underside of my tongue into my throat. Any thoughts?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The sore under the tongue you mention occur due irritation of mucosa of tongue . It basically occur due to acidic or sugary food . It can also be a sign of underlying illness .

We can called it ' canker sore ' . Usually it goes away in few days by its own . I would suggest you to :-

- Continue using of warm salt rinses and mouthwash rinses.

- Maintain proper oral hygiene .

- Take ibuprofen (if not allergic ) or acetaminophen for pain and swelling .

If it persist even after a week then consult oral pathologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe sucralfate (every effective for sores) , steroid drugs , antibiotics or vitamin B12 supplement .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
