Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Lyrica

I am 56 and started taking Lyrica in July for late onset temporal lobe epilepsy. I have been slowly increasing my dose of lyrica by 25mg increments. I usually experience fatigue, slight dizziness and brain fog for the first 2-3 weeks, then the symptoms improve considerably. About one month ago, I bumped my dose from 150mg to 225mg all at once. I was a bit dizzy but doing okay. The past two weeks dry mouth has gotten way worse but is tolerable. I drink a half gallon of water a day to stay hydrated anyhow since we live at high altitude. But two weeks ago my sinus stopped draining and now I m very dizzy, as in the entire room is moving as though I had been spinning around. I have had sinus infections in the past, usually at this time of year. I catch them right away and treat them by taking sudafed & guifennisen and breathing steam. I also make sure the humidifier is at 45%. I have no symptoms of an infection such as discolored mucus, headache and sinus pressure like I usually do. I m just severely congested and extremely dizzy like never before. I relented and went to the doctor and she said that the lyrica could be making my dizziness worse. I began a course of antibiotics which I never take unless desperate, and have been using Xlear nasil spray in addition to my usual regiment. The dizziness is improving somewhat, but still more severe than I ve ever experienced with a sinus infection before. I m concerned that I may be having a dangerous reaction to the lyrica and am feeling anxious about it. I don t want to stop, as my seizures are improving, becoming less frequent and of a shorter duration. Since the dizziness is improving, it would seem that my sinus are a part of the problem. But what I find odd, is that I never had the usual symptoms of an infection to begin with. Should I cut back on my dose by 50mg and increase it at a slower rate like before? Is this going to be a chronic issue while taking lyrica? Any advise or reassurance would be greatly appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Lyrica contains 'pregabalin', which is an anti-epileptic drug. It works by slowing down impulses in the brain that cause seizures.
You need to seek emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Lyrica: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face/lips/tongue/throat.
You need to report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor promptly, which include: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
