Suggest Treatment For Sialorrhea With The Habit Of Cigarette Smoking

My 70 year old husband has experienced sialorrhea over the past year. Now it's becoming a problem. Any links between the excessive saliva and cigar smoking? It seems to have started when he took up cigar smoking. Also, he appears to have a hard time getting words out. Could it be Parkinson's?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain smoking that is of any form is shown to cause dry mouth that s reduced salivation while Sialorrhea that indicate excessive salivation does not seems to be related to smoking and can be due to other causes that can be related to excessive salivation or can also be due to reduced clearance or reduced swallowing..
Yes, Parkinsonism can be a cause but any confirmation can be done only after a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations as per suspected cause..
As of now he can use mouthwash to gargle frequently during the day as it has drying effect in mouth and will ease the problem..
He can also brush his teeth 3 times a day but for a minute or two as it will also help in reducing salivation..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
